‘POP’ GATES TO BE AN AUCTIONEER
A novel plan to draw farmers to the city for a series of Saturday bargain days will be inaugurated next Saturday afternoon by the C. E. Gates Auto company in the company’s large garage.
With “Pop” Gates himself acting as auctioneer the company will sell at auction between the hours of 2 and 3 p.m. any article that any farmer desires to put up for sale. Then at 3 p.m. the company will sell at auction each Saturday a used Ford car taken from their stock room, for whatever it will bring.
GAS SHOWING AT TRIGONIA WELL
During the past week, the Trigonia well was direct reamed 150 feet, making a total of 330 feet re-drilled from 8 to 10-inch diameter. Some delay was caused by having some repairs to make on the band-wheel shaft. Everything is now in good working order and the crews are making about 25 feet per day, which will get to the bottom soon. Considerable gas is in evidence when water is stirred by bailing.
PEAR ORCHARD IS PURCHASED BY JONAS WOLD
Jonas Wold, the well known Medford merchant, has purchased the Murry-Mac orchard at the end of Kings highway from Carol McMillan of Los Angeles for $12,000, the former proprietor of the Medford Pharmacy taking possession immediately.
This property consists of 22 1/2 acres, 20 acres in pears 15-years old, a residence, and improvements. Mr. Wold will start at once to remodel and enlarge the residence and move there with his family in November.
Mr. McMillan came here from Chicago several years ago but after spending a few years in the orchard business left of Los Angeles when he has a very responsible position in a large financial house.
Mr. Wold has also sold his residence at 42 Rose Avenue to A. G. Fuller, formerly of Abilene, Kansas, for $3,600. Mr. Fuller came to Medford several months ago and was so charmed with the valley and climate that he decided to remain permanently. He also says that his reports to former friends in Kansas, will result in a number of other families coming to the Rogue River valley to reside.
Both sales were made by the Page Dressler company, this being the third large deal this company has put over in a week, the other two sales being the Hampton orchard and the Colonel Washburn orchard.
