LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - As of 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Lincoln Electric System has paused rotating outages, with no current requirements from the Southwest Power Pool. LES continues to ask businesses and households to voluntarily conserve energy where possible.
The LES outage map shows no customers without power, however, as many as 18,800 customers were without power at one point Tuesday morning.
LES CEO Kevin Wailes is holding a press conference Tuesday at 11 a.m. to provide updates and answer questions. You can watch the press conference when it begins live on 10/11 and here on our website and app.
Rotating outages, also known as rolling blackouts, are controlled, temporary interruptions of electricity that reduce demand on the system. Outages are typically limited to 30 to 60 minutes — but may last longer — before being rotated to another location. Customers may experience multiple outages Tuesday. Locations of controlled outages are determined by load shed requirements from SPP, which happens in minutes. Customers will not be notified directly, but LES has a map showing current and next outage areas.
According to the Lincoln Police Department, power blackouts will affect traffic signals. Drivers are reminded to treat all non-functioning signals as four way stops.
Anyone who experiences a power outage for more than an hour is asked to report their outage at LES.com/report or 1-888-365-2412, according to LES, as it may be an outage outside of this situation.
