Hale County communities continued to see an increase in coronavirus cases over the last week.

According to the latest weekly update provided by the Plainview/Hale County Health Department, 82 new cases of the virus were reported among Plainview, Abernathy, Cotton Center, Edmonson, Hale Center and Petersburg. The majority of those new cases were reported in Plainview.

Case counts are as follows:

  • Plainview – 66 new cases, 1,763 total
  • Abernathy – 4 new cases, 72 total
  • Cotton Center – no new cases, 2 total
  • Edmonson – 1 new case, 6 total
  • Hale Center – 7 new cases, 108 total
  • Petersburg – 3 new cases, 39 total

A total of 116 cases remain active through Monday at 5 p.m. in Hale County. No new deaths were reported over the last week. Sixty-five new recoveries were also reported during this time period, 55 of which came were in Plainview.

Plainview has 96 active cases, Hale Center 12, Abernathy four, Petersburg three and Edmonson one.

Each of the four age groups saw double-digit increases in confirmed cases. The age group of 21-40 gained 24 new cases and continues to have the most cases of the virus with 729 total to date. The 41-60 age group added 21 new cases for 519 total; ages 61-and-over had 20 new cases and now totals 342; and the 0-20 age group added 16 cases for a total of 399.

A total of 1,936 cases reported in Hale County have been transmitted locally with 53 transmitted outside the county. It is not clear where one case originated and that is currently under investigation.

Of the confirmed active cases of the virus, 107 are currently isolated at home and nine are in the care of a medical facility.

Males have accounted for 1,052 of the confirmed cases in Hale County with females accounting for 936 cases.

Testing also increased with 682 new tests being reported over the last week. A total of 15,709 tests have been administered in Hale County with 13,709 of those coming back negative. Ten cases are still pending results. Another 174 people are currently under monitoring.

Fifty-eight people in Hale County had died from complications from the virus – 51 in Plainview, five in Hale Center and two in Petersburg.
