Prior to a Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants head coach Joe Judge made things abundantly clear: Daniel Jones is the quarterback in East Rutherford and will remain the quarterback moving forward.

Apparently those words didn’t quite sink in, however.

As Judge met with reporters on Wednesday, the Jones questions were flying once again. And once again, the always blunt Judge attempted to make it crystal clear that Jones is a guy they believe in and that he will remain under center.

“We have all the confidence in the world in the guys on our roster, and we have a lot of confidence in Daniel as well,” Judge said. “He’s a tough-minded dude. He responds to a lot of criticism on the outside. But he blocks that out and he plays for his teammates internally. Those guys respect that about him.”

Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski have shared similar sentiments, and while it doesn’t seem to be getting through to media or fans, Jones himself is extremely appreciative of the support.

“I certainly appreciate their support. I’m certainly working as hard as I can to improve and take coaching and help this offense move forward. We’re all working together and we all have the same goal,” Jones said.

“Coach Judge, since the day he’s come in, has been a very clear communicator. That’s part of the blunt and honest approach that he takes to it and communicating with players. I think guys respect that and respond to it well. You know where you stand and what he expects of you. From him, and then all the coaches on the staff, that’s kind of the approach and I think guys appreciate it and respond well to it.”

As far as the record itself, Jones is as frustrated as anyone else. The team is working hard week in and week out and they’d like to add some W’s sooner rather than later.

“We put a lot of work into it throughout the week. To not get the results is disappointing at times. It’s frustrating. I certainly am when we don’t get the results. I take it hard,” Jones said. “But the thing about this game, the thing about any game, any sport or anything you’re doing is you have to be able to refocus and not let it discourage you, not let it distract from the next one, from the preparation or looking forward.

“I think you have to be able to learn from it and re-energize yourself and focus towards the next week. I try to do that. I think as a team, we were frustrated but it’s time to refocus our efforts and use that energy to focus towards next week and not let it distract from our preparation.”

Judge has managed to keep his 0-5 team locked in, which speaks volumes about who he is as a coach, but the entire roster has acknowledged that the time for “Atta-boys” is over. There are no more consolation prizes. Their collective seats are beginning to warm whether that is fair or not, so it’s time to start winning.
